Eric Grim from Grim Dairy will be sharing real, on-the-ground insights from improving grazing practices and infrastructure on his farm. He’ll also walk through how he uses the Pasture.io management system to track cow and forage data. The tour will also discuss opportunities in the dairy industry, like apprenticeships and internships through the Dairy Grazing Apprentice program. Whether you’ve been in dairy for years or are just getting started, this tour is a great chance to connect, swap ideas, and learn something new. Register for this free tour here. Join the Ohio Organic Farmer Researcher Network (OOFRN) for an on-farm research seminar presented by Wayne County farmer and soil health devotee Matt Falb. Matt has a great mind for research and has partnered with several Ohio State researchers at the nearby Wooster campus and around the state and is currently on the executive board of Ohio State’s Agroecosystem Management Program. Matt has participated in several research projects to evaluate management approaches that build soil health while also improving the land, surrounding ecosystems, and community. He is currently exploring silvopasture establishment and the logistics of grazing cover crops on neighboring farms. Farmers, educators, researchers, and students are invited to come and learn through the sharing of both experience and data. This event is held at Constant Springs Farm in Orville, Ohio. Figs are one of the easiest and most rewarding fruits to grow, even in Ohio and other cold winter climates. Join this online workshop to learn about selecting varieties, planting, seasonal care, winter production, and simple propagation techniques. Participants will explore fig varieties that perform well in the Midwest and receive practical tips for growing figs in containers or in the ground. This workshop will be offered three separate times on June 22 with identical content, allowing participants to attend the session that best fits their schedule: 9 a.m., Noon, and 6 p.m. Register here.

Nut and Horse Farms is a small-scale commercial farm focused on owners Joe Hietter and Amy Rothe-Hietter’s two passions: trees and horses. One side of the farm grows tree nuts and some fruit trees. The other side is dedicated to horse husbandry. Their nut tree orchard consists of chestnut, hazelnut, black walnut, heartnut, butternut, pecan, hickory, and hican (cross between pecan and hickory) trees. They have permaculture implemented, and will explain what is involved in growing nut trees with a number of examples of their successes and failures.
