  • Poultry Processing Facility Tour

    J&J Poultry Processing 550 Richholt St., Holgate, United States

    J&J Poultry is a poultry processing facility in northwest Ohio. Each year, they process between 10,000 and 12,000 chickens. Farmer Jim Jacobs will give a tour of the facility, explaining the ins and outs of being a processor. Register for this free tour here. This event is a part of the 2026 OEFFA Farm Tour Series.

  • OEFFA Lake Effect Chapter: 2026 Lake County Fair

    The OEFFA Lake Effect Chapter will be setting up a table at the Lake County Fair from July 28 through August 2. If you would like a free day pass to the fair, consider volunteering to staff the building (basically just babysitting displays in the Natural Resource building) for a 3-hour shift.   • 2026 Nut Growers Conference

    The annual conferences for the Northern Nut Growers Association (NNGA) and Chestnut Growers of America (CGA) will be held jointly Friday, July 31-Monday, August 3, 2026 in Amherst, Massachusetts. The conference’s main events include a welcoming dinner with a show and tell session, two all-day technical sessions, live auction, social/banquet, and an all-day field tour. Attendees will include a diverse mix of commercial growers, researchers, educators, extension specialists, and hobbyists. Expect to hear a lot about chestnuts and hazelnuts, especially when grown in agroforestry practices. Learn more and register at the link below.

  • Organic Grains Farm Tour

    Next Gen Organic Farms 6444 State Route 65, Leipsic, United States

    Next Gen Organic Farms is a certified organic grain farm growing corn, popcorn, beans, wheat, and alfalfa in northwest Ohio. They use cutting-edge equipment with heavy tillage for weed control. This multi-generational farm has been certified organic for eight years. This field walk will take attendees through their operation, plus view equipment and drone demos. The Ohio Organic Farmer Researcher Network, a collaborative effort between OEFFA, Central State, and Ohio State.

  • OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter: Chapter Meeting and Potluck

    Noah and Gary Schlabach will be hosting a farm tour with OEFFA’s Grain Growers Chapter at their farm near Plain City, Ohio. They grow organic corn, soybeans, and wheat on more than 500 acres. Attendees will see their clover field, different farm equipment, and organic grain production up close. The OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information for organic grain production, processing, and marketing. The chapter welcomes anyone with an interest in organic grain production to attend. An OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter meeting will take place from 10-11:45 a.m. Please bring a dish to share for a potluck lunch starting at noon. Attendees are encouraged to bring a side dish to share. The farm tour and discussion will begin at 1:30 p.m. Questions can be directed to bburgess@hirzel.com. Parking will be available across the street from the farm’s address.     Learn from a diversified meat business about pastured-raised livestock with a specific focus on how to raise broiler chickens! Curious about how to raise pastured meats? Interested in the ins and outs of raising broiler chickens on pasture? Sugar Butte Farms is owned and operated by Eric, Kayla, & Will Gibson. It sits in Lowell, Ohio on 80 acres full of diverse biology and greenery. They raise chicken, pork, turkey, and lamb - as well as producing value-added products like freeze dried pet treats and skin care products. This event will include both a farm tour and dedicated time learning about their broiler chicken operation. Sugar Butte chickens are fed Ohio grown & milled non-GMO feed and moved on green pasture every day. They use two techniques: day ranging and chicken tractors. Take home gift: All attendees will go home with a product made on the farm! Rain plan: This event will continue if there is light rain, so come prepared with rain gear. If weather is severe, we will cancel and refund your ticket. Parking & directions: A GPS can take you up a back way (Cats Creek) which is a little confusing. Look for Rural Action signs and someone directing you to parking. Coming from Route 60? Take Route 60 into Lowell. Once you reach the single stoplight in Lowell, turn right on to Walnut Street (AKA Route 530). Make another right on to the actual State Route 530. Continue taking 530 for 3.9 miles. Our road is on the LEFT hand side. It is just under 1 mile out that road. Green house. Coming from I-77? I-77 North then take exit 6 and make a right at the stop sign. You will be on 821 for just a few seconds and after the BP gas station/subway you make a left in Highland Ridge Road towards the Blue Tractors. This road is curvy and cross the interstate several times. You will eventually reach a stop sign with a brick house and a pool located behind it. You can follow GPS now. Go straight through that intersection. The road will curve to the left where you will go through an underpass. You may be tempted to continue straight but make that left down the hill. You will begin to go back up the hill then at the top of the steep part it makes a sharp right then you will see ponies and a donkey along with ponds on your left. Now slow down because our gravel road is in the next right turn. It is just under 1 mile out that road. Please note: Attendees will be walking across uneven terrain and on their feet for much of this event. This event is supported by a grant from the Renewable Natural Resources Foundation (RNRF).
