  • Composting Facility Tour

    Rustbelt Riders 7450 Terminal Dr, Lorain, United States

    Rust Belt Riders’ mission is to feed people, not landfills. They are a worker-owned cooperative that redirects food waste from landfills and converts it into nutrient-rich compost. This compost serves as the foundation of their Tilth Soil blends for farmers, home gardeners, houseplant parents, and everyone in between. This tour takes place at Rathlin Soils' compost site, where Rust Belt Riders is co-located. Walk through this composting facility and learn more about how diverting food from landfills supports our local food system. Register for this free tour here.   • Poultry Processing Facility Tour

    J&J Poultry is a poultry processing facility in northwest Ohio. Each year, they process between 10,000 and 12,000 chickens.   • OEFFA Lake Effect Chapter: 2026 Lake County Fair

    The OEFFA Lake Effect Chapter will be setting up a table at the Lake County Fair from July 28 through August 2. If you would like a free day pass to the fair, consider volunteering to staff the building (basically just babysitting displays in the Natural Resource building) for a 3-hour shift.   • Organic Grains Farm Tour

    Next Gen Organic Farms is a certified organic grain farm growing corn, popcorn, beans, wheat, and alfalfa in northwest Ohio. They use cutting-edge equipment with heavy tillage for weed control. This multi-generational farm has been certified organic for eight years. This field walk will take attendees through their operation, plus view equipment and drone demos.   • OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter: Chapter Meeting and Potluck

    Noah and Gary Schlabach will be hosting a farm tour with OEFFA’s Grain Growers Chapter at their farm near Plain City, Ohio. They grow organic corn, soybeans, and wheat on more than 500 acres. Attendees will see their clover field, different farm equipment, and organic grain production up close. The OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information for organic grain production, processing, and marketing. The chapter welcomes anyone with an interest in organic grain production to attend. An OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter meeting will take place from 10-11:45 a.m. Please bring a dish to share for a potluck lunch starting at noon. Attendees are encouraged to bring a side dish to share. The farm tour and discussion will begin at 1:30 p.m. Questions can be directed to bburgess@hirzel.com. Parking will be available across the street from the farm’s address.   • Bowyer Farm Agrivoltaics Tour

    Bowyer Farm 2210 Mason Montgomery Rd., Mason, OH, United States

    Bowyer Farm is home to one of the largest solar arrays in southwest Ohio. This tour will explore their 140-acre (28MW) agrivoltaic solar grazing site, where hundreds of sheep are rotationally grazed under a commercial solar array. Walk through the farm with hosts and shepherds Amanda Wilson and Brady Kirwan from Ohio Solar Grazing, where they demonstrate and discuss their role in this agrivoltaic operation. Plan to park at Bowyer Farm's pavilion at the listed address for a brief introduction to the farm. Then we will board a shuttle to travel to the nearby grazing site. The shuttle will depart the pavilion at 10:15 a.m. and return by 11:45 a.m. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for touring the site field. Attendance is limited to 30 people and pre-registration is required. Spots are currently sold out. This event is a part of the 2026 OEFFA Farm Tour Series. Join OEFFA's Lake Effect Chapter on a tour of this compact homestead that proves that small scale doesn't mean small impact, weaving together pollinator beds, vegetable gardens, and a dedicated fruit production area, with herbs tucked in throughout the landscape. A small flock of chickens rounds out the homestead, contributing to both food production and closed-loop fertility. With 950 gallons of water storage on site for irrigation and solar-powered drip irrigation currently in development, this homestead is a working example of resilient, resource-conscious design. Visitors will see firsthand how a small land holding can adapt quickly to a changing climate, offering practical, scalable ideas for anyone looking to grow more with less space. Please plan to park across the street at the cemetery. No RSVP or registration required. The tour will take place rain or shine.
