    The OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter will meet on Friday, December 6 from 9:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. at the Wildcat Cafe in Vanlue. They have a decent menu and are reasonably priced.     Join OEFFA's Lake Effect Chapter for a potluck and presentation! Watch an educational and inspiring slideshow from a past OEFFA Conference workshop that dives into the soil web of life, powerfully reinforcing your reasons for striving to grow and eat organic. The presentation is about 45 minutes long, so there will hopefully be time to share thoughts and socialize as well. Please bring a dish to share (or just some organic chips or fruit!) along with a plate and utensils to the potluck.

    Owner, operator, and Farmer-in-Chief Samantha Steiner founded Dogwood Farm in 2010 to provide the northern Cincinnati, Ohio area all natural, locally raised meats and eggs. Her passion in farming stemmed from her upbringing as a fourth generation farmer. Growing up on a dairy farm, Samantha learned the responsibilities and importance of humane animal treatment and natural foods. Her holistic agriculture approach provides her livestock a stress free environment and leaves a positive impact on the land.

  • SWOEFFA Chapter: Urban Farm Tour

    Visit four urban farms in Hamilton County, Ohio, each growing food for our community in its own way. Meet the farmers as they share each farm’s history and production methods. Together we can celebrate their successes and hear how they have overcome challenges. A unique opportunity to learn, network, and be inspired! This is a car caravan-style program so we will travel from site to site throughout the day in our personal vehicles. A map and GPS directions along with parking information will be provided. This Urban Farm Tour presented by the Southwest Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association Chapter (SWOEFFA) and the Hamilton County Conservation District.     This 51-acre vegetable operation grows and processes ingredients into soups, pasta sauces, dressings, jams, and dipping oils. This tour will cover how Sandra and Jeff Ashba’s farm incorporates growing organic vegetables and operating a cannery. Guest numbers are limited.   • OEFFA Lake Effect Chapter: Farm Tour and Potluck

    Join a farm tour and potluck with OEFFA’s Lake Effect Chapter at A’s and O’s Farm in Mentor, Ohio! This year's tour will be at the farm's "home" field instead of its Lake Shore Blvd. field. This will allow everyone to join a potluck lunch right after the tour, so please bring a dish to share. The farm tour will run from 10 a.m. to noon, with the potluck happening from noon to 2 p.m. The home field features a 16 x 44 foot polyhouse, solar water pumping, an 8000-watt solar array for the home, a small no-till vegetable garden, a small blueberry bush field (they sell the bushes, not the fruit!), and their signature crop: pawpaw trees! Built into the back of the garage, the farm has a small organic food co-op that sells organic food from three sources: local organic farms when available, bulk organic produce from the Cleveland Food terminal, and a buying club that purchases bulk grains, seeds, fruits, and dry goods every month. They will demonstrate planting and tree digging techniques, and hopefully you will have some of your own experiences, methods, and thoughts on small-scale agriculture to share with everyone.   • OEFFA Lake Effect Chapter: 2026 Lake County Fair

    The OEFFA Lake Effect Chapter will be setting up a table at the Lake County Fair from July 28 through August 2. If you would like a free day pass to the fair, consider volunteering to staff the building (basically just babysitting displays in the Natural Resource building) for a 3-hour shift. Help is especially needed on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2. Please contact Tom Rapini at (440) 257-2673 (landline) if you are interested in helping out.

    Noah and Gary Schlabach will be hosting a farm tour with OEFFA’s Grain Growers Chapter at their farm near Plain City, Ohio. They grow organic corn, soybeans, and wheat on more than 500 acres. Attendees will see their clover field, different farm equipment, and organic grain production up close. The OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information for organic grain production, processing, and marketing. The chapter welcomes anyone with an interest in organic grain production to attend. An OEFFA Grain Growers Chapter meeting will take place from 10-11:45 a.m. Please bring a dish to share for a potluck lunch starting at noon. Attendees are encouraged to bring a side dish to share.     What can you accomplish on just half an acre? Join OEFFA's Lake Effect Chapter on a tour of this compact homestead that proves that small scale doesn't mean small impact, weaving together pollinator beds, vegetable gardens, and a dedicated fruit production area, with herbs tucked in throughout the landscape. A small flock of chickens rounds out the homestead, contributing to both food production and closed-loop fertility. With 950 gallons of water storage on site for irrigation and solar-powered drip irrigation currently in development, this homestead is a working example of resilient, resource-conscious design. Visitors will see firsthand how a small land holding can adapt quickly to a changing climate, offering practical, scalable ideas for anyone looking to grow more with less space. Please plan to park across the street at the cemetery. No RSVP or registration required. The tour will take place rain or shine.
