This tour will highlight their management and grazing systems, and serve as a gathering for grass farmers, aspiring graziers, and dairy farmers.   • Growing Great Figs: A Farmer-to-Farmer Skill Share

    Figs are one of the easiest and most rewarding fruits to grow, even in Ohio and other cold winter climates. Join this online workshop to learn about selecting varieties, planting, seasonal care, winter production, and simple propagation techniques. Participants will explore fig varieties that perform well in the Midwest and receive practical tips for growing figs in containers or in the ground. This workshop will be offered three separate times on June 22 with identical content, allowing participants to attend the session that best fits their schedule: 9 a.m., Noon, and 6 p.m. Register here.

Lindsay Klaunig of Trouvaille Farm will share past and present on-farm research as it relates to her journey in regionally adapted seed work. Brainstorm crops and varieties that are particularly in need of adaptation to our specific climate. Consider what types of trialing and other research might be needed to get started on this work.   • Tree Nuts Farm Tour

    Nut and Horse Farms 6390 Refugee Rd. SW, Pataskala, United States

    Nut and Horse Farms is a small-scale commercial farm focused on owners Joe Hietter and Amy Rothe-Hietter’s two passions: trees and horses. One side of the farm grows tree nuts and some fruit trees. The other side is dedicated to horse husbandry.  Their nut tree orchard consists of chestnut, hazelnut, black walnut, heartnut, butternut, pecan, hickory, and hican (cross between pecan and hickory) trees. They have permaculture implemented, and will explain what is involved in growing nut trees with a number of examples of their successes and failures.
